Anyone who takes a step towards counselling is making a brave decision to better understand themselves and gain some tools for improving their emotional well-being, confidence, self esteem, and much more. Just like visiting your doctor for your physical health, taking care of your mental and emotional health is vital. Making this choice is a testament to your strength and wisdom, and I’m here to provide the support and guidance you need on this meaningful journey.
My name is Raissen Pan, but my friends call me Ray. My purpose is to help individuals navigate the complex terrain of their emotions, thoughts, and relationships. With a deep commitment to evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I provide a safe and empathetic space for clients to explore their inner worlds and foster positive change. I am deeply dedicated to your mental wellbeing and am excited to walk alongside you on your path toward emotional healing and personal growth.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in (but not limited to) a blend of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Psychodynamic Therapy. These methods allow us to explore and understand the underlying emotions, patterns, and beliefs that may be influencing your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships.
But I don’t stop there; recognizing the profound impact of trauma on one’s life, I am committed to providing trauma-informed care. As such, I believe in tailoring therapy to your unique needs, to ensure I provide a safe and supportive environment for healing. That’s why I also integrate techniques from Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness to ensure a holistic approach to your mental and emotional well-being.
Therapy is a collaborative journey, and my role is to support and guide you along the way. In our sessions, we will work together to:
Explore and understand your emotions and thought patterns
Identify and challenge unhelpful behaviours and beliefs
Resolve unaddressed pain and trauma from the past
Cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion
Develop practical strategies to overcome challenges
Encourage personal growth and self-discovery

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path to personal growth and healing.

COURTNEY IS CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS.
I am very aware that counselling takes great risk and vulnerability – it is not easy to take the first step to open up to someone new and share the deepest parts of yourself. That is why the foundation of my therapeutic approach is grounded in forming a strong connection with clients by providing a safe and empathic space for you to open up and feel understood. My hope is that I can see your life through your eyes and then we can begin to collaborate with one another to determine and accomplish your personal goals for therapy.
My therapeutic approach will pull from many different theories, but will often use Emotion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, as well as Solution Focused Therapy the my main methods. I believe that we all need help and guidance when it comes to “fully arriving” at a particularly difficult emotion so that we can “fully leave” it behind and my goal is to help clients move through that process in order to experience emotions in a healthy way in all areas of life.
My main therapeutic approach is Emotion Focused therapy (EFT). The goal of this approach is to guide you into a more productive relationship with your emotions. Emotions are a normal part of the human experience, but can often feel confusing and overwhelming. Using EFT involves empathic listening and validation of your emotions, identifying emotional needs, gentle but direct feedback about unhelpful emotion cycles, finding the “root” of the problem, emotion regulation, reframing emotional experiences, and transforming emotions into something more meaningful for you.
Ultimately whether you need some help navigating your own thoughts and emotions or you need restoration in your relationships, my desire as your counsellor is to help you feel safe enough to face and embrace difficult emotional processes that will lead to healing and change that will create the life you desire.
With that said, I believe that every client is different and may need different approaches to meet their counselling needs, therefore, here is a list of additional evidence based approaches I incorporate in my counselling work with clients:
• Neuropsychology: how thoughts and behaviour are connected to the brain.
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT)
• Attachment Theory
• Solution Focused Therapy
• Gottman Couple’s Therapy
I offer individual counselling for adolescents and adults, as well as couple’s counselling. Additionally, with my past experience working with families in foster care as a parenting support worker, I am also able to offer parent coaching.
Ultimately whether you need some help navigating your own thoughts and emotions or you need restoration in your relationships, my desire is to help you feel safe enough to face and embrace difficult emotional processes that will lead to the change you need for the life you desire.
I am a Registered Psychologist, originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology at the University of Manitoba and obtained a Master of Arts in Counselling at Providence Theological Seminary in Calgary.

I believe positive change and personal growth can best occur through honesty, both with ourselves and the connections we choose to foster. Embracing honesty often requires vulnerability, which may not be easy for everyone, but it’s a crucial step in our journey. I’m dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable environment for my clients, enabling us to tackle their struggles, challenges, obstacles, or any aspect of their lives that demands exploration with sincerity. Speaking our thoughts aloud in a trusted space often brings clarity to our situations and helps us identify what needs attention. At times, a change in perspective is needed. Ultimately, the real work involves acquiring the practical skills to navigate our thoughts, emotions, and actions effectively.
I acknowledge that each person has a unique way of navigating their stories and challenges, so I collaborate with individuals to determine the most suitable therapy or strategies for them. My approach draws from a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help my clients achieve their goals. By exploring familiar situations from different angles, we can uncover fresh approaches to overcome obstacles and improve relationships.
A wise supervisor once likened finding a therapist to finding the right pair of shoes – it often requires trying a few options before discovering the perfect fit. I hope to be that right fit for you.
I have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and attended Trinity Western University to earn a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I was a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia prior to relocating to Alberta, where I continued my practice as a Canadian Certified Counsellor in this amazing province. I am now a Registered Provisional Psychologist and am committed continuing to help individuals on their path to personal growth and well-being. I’m looking forward to our journey together…

“Relationships in which you can genuinely care and be cared for.
Meaningful roles that challenge you and allow you to contribute to the world around you.
Freedom to be curious, to explore, and to experience.”
I think of mental wellness as the ability to love, work, and play. I think of counselling as a place where people can identify and address interpersonal, emotional, and thought patterns that are getting in the way of wellness. There are reasons you came to be how and where you are now, and you have strengths that will help you. Counselling can be used to better understand who you are, determine what you need, make a plan for what is next, and to learn or refine skills for living a more full, balanced life with yourself and others. I am here to listen when you speak, and when you can’t. To follow your lead in what you want out of counselling and life, and also to guide you in ways to get there.
For individuals, couples, and families, I use emotion-focused therapies as my base. Emotions, or their absence, are indicators that tell us about what is important, give us clues about what we need, and fuel our motivation to act. I use Emotion-Focused Family Therapy and the Gottman Couples Method to empower couples and families to practise shifting the ways they connect with each other within the safety of each session. For individual therapy work with youth and adults, I also integrate cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, mindfulness, narrative, and art therapy techniques as needed. I am trained in trauma-focused and trauma-informed approaches to support individuals who have experienced or are currently experiencing relationship disruptions or maltreatment that is impacting who and how they are in the present.
After earning my Behavioural Science B.A. at Ambrose University in Calgary, I went on to complete a Counselling Psychology M.Ed. at the University of Toronto. I have experience having previously worked at Distress Centre Calgary, Eastside Family Centre, and Wood’s Homes’ Street Services and Exceptional Needs programs.
