Shelley is currently only accepting NEW ADULT clients for Individual Therapy. (And not accepting new couple clients at this time.)
My clients often describe me as patient, caring, and non-judgmental. In our sessions, I approach each session with curiosity and strive to create an environment where you can discover your own answers, sometimes for the very first time. I wholeheartedly believe that over time, each person is capable of finding the growth and healing they are looking for. My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, understood, and safe to express yourself freely and help you work through some of life’s toughest pieces
While my foundation is in psychodynamic theory and existential philosophy, my therapy approach is client-centered and integrative. This means my focus is on understanding your experiences and feelings from your perspective, and I draw from various therapeutic methods, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), to tailor our sessions to your specific needs. In addition, our sessions won’t follow a rigid agenda but instead will be guided by the purpose, goals, and tasks of therapy that we come up with together. In my experience, this flexibility allows us to prioritize the more important and relevant items while working towards your long-term goals, making our work together effective and meaningful.
I work with individual adults and youths aged 16 and up, helping with issues like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My aim is to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, live more authentically, and build honest, genuine relationships with yourself and others. I also offer parent coaching for those wanting to improve their relationships with their children.
In our work together, you can expect to focus on:
Gaining insight: Developing a deeper understanding of your behaviours and motives through awareness and articulation of emotional experiences.
Identifying patterns: Recognizing how you usually deal with stress and breaking free from painful, self-defeating patterns.
Exploring relationship dynamics: Understanding communication patterns that hinder the development of deeper, more meaningful relationships.
Clarifying life values: Exploring your identity and what you want out of life.
I took a somewhat unconventional path to becoming a Psychologist. My journey began when I was working as a mechanical engineer and volunteering overseas to assist refugees and locally as a distress centre volunteer. These experiences sparked a passion for mental health and a deep admiration for the strength of those I encountered. Embracing this new calling, I went back to school and received my M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary. I’ve called Calgary home for 23 years, and as a Chinese-Canadian, I can appreciate how culture influences how we view the world, our relationships, and in turn ourselves.
When I’m not at Refresh you will often find me in the mountains hiking or learning new tricks on my snowboard, playing an exciting boardgame with friends and family, or tending to my veggie garden.
I’m excited and honored you took the time to get to know me. I know for some the Journey to healing and growth can be a long and winding road - but know that I will be on the Journey with you. I can’t wait to meet you to start your Journey of growth together.

Change requires action, which is a tough step, to begin with. I get excited when I have the opportunity to join the journey and help facilitate change in each of my client’s lives - inspiring and equipping them with tools for a better future.
In life, we all encounter many challenges and sometimes it becomes easier to overcome those by having someone alongside to help us navigate through those moments. I believe in providing my clients with a nurturing environment where they feel accepted and not judged; where they can express themselves freely to achieve their goals in therapy. It’s like you’re driving the car and I, your therapist act like a GPS, sitting beside you helping you navigate through the way to reach your destination.
Together we will try to understand what in your life is working well for you and what is not. Together, we will pause, assess, and in some cases help find a pivot to make a positive change to lead a better life. Using various therapeutic tools and strategies, we will work on what you need to get your life and health back on track and to help you feel empowered when faced with life pressures and challenges in the future.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy - this is why I like to tailor my sessions according to your needs. I use a number of modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Approach, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Approaches, Narrative Based Techniques, Trauma Informed Care approaches, Solution Focused Therapy, and incorporate Theraplay and other Play Therapy techniques with my younger (and sometimes not as young smiley) clients.
After completing my Masters degree in clinical psychology from India, I worked as a school counselor. As part of my internship, I had the unique experience of working in child and adolescent psychiatry which is where I formed my passion for clients of all age groups. Eight Years ago I made the big move from India to Calgary and a few years ago decided to pursue my second Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology.
I look forward to meeting you soon to begin our journey - together!

**Please ensure your insurance provider covers services provided by a Registered Social Worker or Registered Certified Counsellor.
Over my 10 years as a Registered Social Worker, I have developed a passion for supporting children, youth, and families living with concurrent diagnoses including but not limited to those living with disabilities, emotional regulation concerns, neurodiversity, anxiety and depression, trauma, and behavioral concerns.
I recently finished my Master of Counselling Psychology through Athabasca University. My
clinical counsellor registration is in progress.
I regularly use a play therapy
approach directly with children, as well as provide parent and family support. I am currently completing play therapy training and anticipate being a Certified Play Therapist in the spring of 2023. I offer an integrated counselling approach in which I pull from various theoretical
frameworks and techniques in order to tailor counselling support for each individual client.
Some of the counselling theories I utilize are cognitive behavioural therapy, emotions focused therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, mindfulness based approaches, narrative based techniques, trauma informed care approaches, and play therapy techniques.
I offer concrete, objective strategies alongside an environment of understanding and empathy for the human experience.
I believe that no matter the challenges or diagnoses children, youth, and families are faced with, there is always a way to live your fullest life and I am committed to supporting you in achieving

Anyone who takes a step towards counselling is making a brave decision to better understand themselves and gain some tools for improving their emotional well-being, confidence, self esteem, and much more. Just like visiting your doctor for your physical health, taking care of your mental and emotional health is vital. Making this choice is a testament to your strength and wisdom, and I’m here to provide the support and guidance you need on this meaningful journey.
My name is Raissen Pan, but my friends call me Ray. My purpose is to help individuals navigate the complex terrain of their emotions, thoughts, and relationships. With a deep commitment to evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I provide a safe and empathetic space for clients to explore their inner worlds and foster positive change. I am deeply dedicated to your mental wellbeing and am excited to walk alongside you on your path toward emotional healing and personal growth.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in (but not limited to) a blend of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Psychodynamic Therapy. These methods allow us to explore and understand the underlying emotions, patterns, and beliefs that may be influencing your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships.
But I don’t stop there; recognizing the profound impact of trauma on one’s life, I am committed to providing trauma-informed care. As such, I believe in tailoring therapy to your unique needs, to ensure I provide a safe and supportive environment for healing. That’s why I also integrate techniques from Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness to ensure a holistic approach to your mental and emotional well-being.
Therapy is a collaborative journey, and my role is to support and guide you along the way. In our sessions, we will work together to:
Explore and understand your emotions and thought patterns
Identify and challenge unhelpful behaviours and beliefs
Resolve unaddressed pain and trauma from the past
Cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion
Develop practical strategies to overcome challenges
Encourage personal growth and self-discovery
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alberta, and a Master’s of Counselling from the University of Lethbridge. If you’re ready to take the first step towards positive change and emotional well-being, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path to personal growth and healing.

I understand that everyone struggles with difficult emotions at times but with a safe and supportive environment, some curiosity, and ’emotional coaching’, clients can obtain important information and new strategies to navigate their patterns of emotionality and build ‘new wiring’ towards emotional agility. I appreciate the uniqueness of each client and tailor therapy based on individual needs and what ‘best fits’ rather than a “one-size-fits all solution”. It is important to me to listen intently to understand where clients have been on their journey and collaboratively explore what may be needed to get to where they want to go.
Also, I seek to help clients feel hopeful in the process of change by highlighting strengths, deconstructing goals into achievable steps, exploring creative perspectives and through non-judgmental caring. I have a passion to help clients move towards emotional, mental, relational, spiritual and physical well-being.
In my practice, I use Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to help clients thrive but I also integrate other approaches and elements from Attachment Theory, Neuroscience, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, therapeutic play and mindfulness.
Although I am not currently accepting children clients, I can be a resource for parents. I have completed Red & Green Stream with Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute. I have also trained in Emotion Focused Family Therapy that is useful in working with parents to foster deeper emotional connections and help families work better together as a unit.
When it comes to making relationships work, I have trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy and on route to completing Level 1 in the Gottman Method. Every relationship can be unique in how we “dance” with others and once there’s more awareness of the contributing steps, we can learn new ways to move and allow more space to be able to share, negotiate, support, and thrive together.
I am originally from Toronto but Calgary is home - nice and close to the mountains! My education includes a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Providence University & Seminary in Calgary and now, the Clinic Director and a Registered Psychologist @ Refresh.

Authenticity. This is what I’ve been told I do well. I’m not going to pretend I’m perfect, and nor do I want you to. Life is messy, let’s wade through some of the mess together.
I will provide the opportunity and space for you to be authentically you. Let’s chat about who you are, what you love, what makes you tick, and what you would like to see different in your life. This is where your vulnerability and my expertise make magic. I will teach you a few things, give you new tools and skills to work through low and anxious feelings. Together we will assess where you’re ready to make changes, and help you make decisions or manage difficult situations in your life. I’m not going to pretend this is going to be easy, the big stuff rarely is, but we will walk together through the hard parts and give you the power to take your health back and prioritize you. We will work through the tools to stop the overthinking, take the stress down a few notches, and address the pressures of life. I will do my best to meet you just where you’re at.
Together, we will use cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and collaborate to find the thoughts and actions creating obstacles in your life, test them out, and combat them to decide if they’re helping or hindering you. I have experience helping people with a variety of concerns including, but not limited to stress, anxiety, depression and relationships. Most of all, I want to help you reach your potential, and make the way there a little easier.

As a counsellor, I believe that it is my role to be supportive as I help you navigate life’s challenges. I enjoy learning about who my clients are and try to see the world through their perspective in order to understand how I can be most helpful. I believe that even small changes can be powerful in fostering hope and fulfillment in your life. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, person-centered therapy, and narrative techniques in my practice. I also pull from other theories as I tailor my approach to fit the unique needs of my clients.
I work with individuals in a private, one on one setting. My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, stress, interpersonal relationships, boundaries, emotional regulation, and life transitions. I strive to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space so that you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and experiences. I believe that a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and accepted is the most valuable resource I can offer you on your journey to create meaningful and lasting change.
I can offer thoughtful, exploratory conversations to help you better understand the challenges that you are facing & collaboratively develop coping strategies to help you along your way. Clients share that things seem clearer when talked about openly without fear of judgment. I understand the courage it takes to share deeply about yourself and your life, and I do my best to create a space for my clients to feel safe enough to do so.

I believe positive change and personal growth can best occur through honesty, both with ourselves and the connections we choose to foster. Embracing honesty often requires vulnerability, which may not be easy for everyone, but it’s a crucial step in our journey. I’m dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable environment for my clients, enabling us to tackle their struggles, challenges, obstacles, or any aspect of their lives that demands exploration with sincerity. Speaking our thoughts aloud in a trusted space often brings clarity to our situations and helps us identify what needs attention. At times, a change in perspective is needed. Ultimately, the real work involves acquiring the practical skills to navigate our thoughts, emotions, and actions effectively.
I acknowledge that each person has a unique way of navigating their stories and challenges, so I collaborate with individuals to determine the most suitable therapy or strategies for them. My approach draws from a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help my clients achieve their goals. By exploring familiar situations from different angles, we can uncover fresh approaches to overcome obstacles and improve relationships.
A wise supervisor once likened finding a therapist to finding the right pair of shoes – it often requires trying a few options before discovering the perfect fit. I hope to be that right fit for you.
I have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and attended Trinity Western University to earn a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
